When bored, blog.

(This blog is new...and is an attempt at my husband, T.J., and I sharing a blog. In order to start it off, the following post is pulled from my personal LiveJournal account.)

I am reminded that I have posted nothing of true substance in a very long time. *slaps hand* This should not imply that I mean to actually correct this issue. But, an attempt could be made.

After T.J. and I were married I spent a year blissfully unemployed; always busy and rarely accomplishing anything (this may be an exaggeration, but I'm truly not certain it isn't). I did look for positions on and off but, while I had a few prospects, nothing ended up resulting in a dream job. One day, early this year, I came to the realization that I was suddenly very weary of being home alone all the time and I decided to find any job as soon as possible. Within a few days I had a job with Laplink Software. I had actually applied for a receptionist position--I just wanted out of the house--but after my interview I was told they felt I was overqualified for that position and instead offered me a position in inside sales. Neither position paid much at all but I wasn't looking for a high paying job so I accepted. At first, all was well and I was happy simply to be out of the house and contributing a meager amount to our finances. But I quickly remembered that I had had my fill of customer service (particularly customer service over the phone) and I started remembering that I had other career goals. I left Laplink around the end of July.

I am now on day nine of what I would probably consider my first real job. I'm salaried. I have a flexible schedule. I'm not a minion (except in the broadest terms). And, best of all, I'm a technical writer! Now I get to find out if that is, after all, what I've always wanted to be. So far, so good.

T.J. is in a similar place. Early in the year he was growing tired of Microsoft more than ever. Around mid-February he left Microsoft and accepted a position with a little game development company which, with the occasional project aside, he is loving. And I'm loving him loving his job (despite a few lost MS perks--oh ProClub! how I miss your discounted membership!).
So, T.J.'s snazzy business card reads "Game Programmer" and my business card, upon arrival, will read "Technical Writer". Truly, how cool is that? ;)

Okay, time for blurbs:

A Reminder For Seattle-Area Residents: The Semi-Annual Friends of the Seattle Library Book Sale is THIS WEEKEND. For more info, click here. Go. Sort through thousands of cheaply priced books. Bring them all home!

I'm a little infatuated with the ABC website right now. Online episodes! T.J. and I have been getting caught up on the 3rd season of Grey's Anatomy and I already caught up on Desperate Housewives. Shows on demand without clogging up our Netflix queues! Yay!

T.J. and I both finally sat down and read all of the Harry Potter books.

We are still playing World of Warcraft...Alliance side now though. "For the Horde!", she whispered.

I had another sister get married this last June. My poor parents--three daughters married within 18 months. Picture! (Martin & Kristin Perez)

T.J. and I are loving all the television show fall DVD releases...lots and lots to watch! I pre-ordered a bunch earlier in the year and it has been a lot of fun to have them come randomly in the mail. (When, oh when, will BSG be available for pre-order? Seriously?!)

After the book sale, we (and maybe a friend) are going over to Leavenworth for the rest of the weekend. Happy 49th birthday Dad!

This November, we are going to visit T.J.'s Grandmother in New York. It will be my first visit to the east coast...exciting!

T.J. has been working crazy hours the last week or so due to a project deadline...he didn't get in until after 3 a.m. last night. :( I'll be glad when he is done with this project (as will he)!

How's that for catching up?
